10-30 Pictures and Mics
Today I took new pictures of the books that will be falling in the game with the 'Book of Knowledge' books that will be my arrow keys. I also checked out a Zoom Mic to take sound bites for when the user catches the books.
10-28 Presentation Day
Today my group presented on everything that we had completed since the last time we met. I have my bookshelf, the books for my arrow keys, and new pictures for the code. Along with a user book counter and displaying fact on the screen.

New Concept (Woo!) 9/25/13
Concept
Same basis, interactive using the Makey Makey to control a game. But now ... BOOKS!! The concept of consuming knowledge and that knowledge is power and to have a broad scope of knowledge. I want to have a bookcase with shelves of books to be my interactive object.
The picture shows a bookshelf with a space for a monitor and four books that are different colors. The game play is to have a character at the bottom of the screen and try to catch books(knowledge) and after after catching so many books a display comes up with a random fact and asks if the user wants to continue. The two books on either side of the monitor will be used to control back and forth motion and the bottom two controllers will deal with starting the game, ending it and continuing forward.
The bookshelf should convey a certain ambiance with the books most of the shelves but some of the shelves will have tchotchkes on it. I want it to convey a diverse range of interests, and books that can change a persons perception of things, like history to a random facts book, the fiction book Handmaiden's Tale, the Bible, and Human Anatomy. Books that offer a glimpse into a different perspective or way of thinking.

9/16 and 9/17 Progress
Yesterday I experimented with some glass shapes, both clear (bottom left) and color (bottom right) I had made and how they interacted with a projection.
Today I got my Makey Makey in the mail!!!! I will be experimenting with this tonight.

The Contract- 9/11/13
I will be working on
an interactive installation for my BFA project. It will include glass spherical
shapes to touch and interact with the audience. The interactions that will
occur through different variations of the glass spheres being touched will be
changes in lighting, sound, and projected html5 <canvas> moving
particles.
The concept of my
piece is for the viewer who interacts with my piece to experience movement, and
in essence ‘dance’ in front of other people and have it be a fun experience because
they are paying more attention to the art piece that the outside viewers of the
piece. The theme would address how most people do not like to make a spectacle
of themselves and how some people do not like to dance in public or at all but
that everyone has the ability to dance even if they do not believe they do.
How the interactive
piece will be set up will facilitate the movement of the participant by having
them touch different parts of the installation which will be located at
different heights and in a semicircle around where the main users interaction
will occur. Each of the glass spheres of the installation will control
different reactions from the piece, some will change the lighting, some will
affect the sound, and others the visually projected moving particles. This will
also help give the suggestion of a dance setting with music and flashing
lights.
The final format of this
piece will be an installation that will probably need close to the 12 square
feet, I want a 3.5ft space where the user will stand and have a semicircle of
glass spheres hanging from three different heights and layers from the ceiling
and three different heights and layers coming out of the floor as well. Around
23 glass sphere would be hanging from the ceiling and 15 attached to the floor.
There will also be a projection down onto the floor. These glass spheres will
be what controls the lights and sounds and projection objects that will move
around.
The equipment I will
need during production will be a MakeyMakey, LEDs, a projector, and a computer
for testing. I will also need the glass blowing studio. In the display I will
need a projector that is small and could be hung from the ceiling, the
MakeyMakey, a computer to run the program (maybe a Raspberry Pi), speakers, the
glass spheres, securely attached to the floor and ceiling, or on a frame.

Self-Assessment Essay for 9/4/13
With Digital Art I am primarily focused with Interactive Art as a way of expressing myself through fun, non-goal oriented games. I don't have much of a style if only that the art I create is lighthearted. It is not necessarily childlike but it isn't very dark in nature. I like the work of Scott Snibbe, he is an interactive artist, who works with sound, in pieces like REWORK_ and with people to people interaction with work like Boundary Functions.
With my glass work I am right now focused on incorporating my love of crocheting and my love of glass by creating glass pieces that have the texture of crocheted patterns.

Presently I am trying out different forms, bowls and flat pieces, and crochet designs, basket weave and shell stitch. An artist that I would love to know how she makes her work is Catherine Carr, it is so delicate and what I would potentially like to progress to in the future.
